Misko Sports
Celebrating over 125 years in Business
In 1882, the Misko family business was established by Frank Misko. He was born in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia in 1853. He was apprenticed into the harness business at an early age and later served three years in the Austrian army. Misko came to the United States and settled in Minnesota. In 1882, he moved to Ord, Nebraska, and built a small brick harness shop on the north side of the town square. Misko Harness and Leather Goods saw an increase in business and a large two story building was built in 1895. The Misko Block was created in 1904 when more buildings were built next to the original.
A son, William Misko was born in April 1881. William took over the business in 1912 and continued to operate Misko Harness and Leather Goods. He added items associated for horse and buggy.
Dean Misko was born to William Misko in April of 1923. Dean joined his father in the family business in 1945 after returning from three years in the army and became sole owner in 1953. The business expanded into sporting foods, western tack, western boots, and sporting goods. In February of 1977, Dean opened a second Misko Sports in Kearney, Nebraska. Dean now travels the state selling to many high schools and colleges. Bill Misko was born to Dean Misko in June of 1956. After attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Bill joined his father in business in 1978. Bill soon enlarged the retail sales space to include the second and third buildings built by Frank Misko in 1904. Bill also was instrumental in advancing Misko Sports online presence.
Misko Sports is a proud member of the Ord Chamber of Commerce.
